Feeding timber and branches into a commercial sized Woodchipper is becoming more and more the standard practice for many Arborists and Tree Companies globally, and it’s for good reason – using machinery is safer and a lot faster than relying on manual labour and it is also a lot more reliable and scalable in a business sense.
This has also keen closely followed with using large mobile cranes to assist with tree work and it’s all about efficiency and productivity, which combined are two key components of any successful business in todays day and age. As a result, tree companies around the globe are using larger capacity wood chippers to reduce the manual labour input required to process large tree sections, with these larger wood chippers (20” capacity and up) being able to process large branch and tree sections in one mouthful – they are certainly very impressive to watch just how quickly they can reduce a large tree into a pile of wood chips!
The type of machinery used to feed wood chippers does vary depending on the country where you are globally, and while there is no strict rules or patterns, Europe and parts of America seem to prefer a crane mounted to the actual chipper itself to feed the material in, whereas here in Australia we largely prefer a mobile unit to feed the chipper – either a tracked excavator, a small articulated wheeled loader or a tracked stand-on skid-steer are all popular options. Using either of these machines with a rotating grapple is a very impressive way to productively feed a woodchipper all day long!
The Piranha BT300 Wood Chipper has several built in features that particularly lends it to being machine fed, including the following:
QUICK ACTION FOLDING WINCH ARM: The winch rope arm on Piranha Chippers quickly folds up and out of the way when not required (as in, machine feeding) by simply removing a sliding rod, easily done with no tools in less than 30 seconds.
AUTO CRUSH FUNCTION – Piranha Chippers have a digitally controlled auto-crush function for the top feed wheel which is built in to the operating system to easily handle tough, difficult branches and whole tree sections without the need for an operator to manually be pulling a ‘crush’ lever while the feed wheels process the material into the cutter drum.
LARGE TOP FEED WHEEL – the BT300 (15” Chipper) has a large 22” diameter top feed wheel which easily climbs up and over full-sized logs, eliminating the need for an operator to manually ‘lift’ the feed wheel before the chipper will process the material being presented
All Piranha Chippers are hand-built using the highest grade materials and are designed to handle the toughest conditions that any tree company faces, day in and day out. Piranha Chippers – built to perform!
